So it just dawned on me that tomorrow is EARTH DAY!
I am going to be running a vermicompost workshop at the Hope Gardens Community Center in the morning, then heading over to the Woodbine Garden to plant some seeds with student groups.
If you can’t join us out in Bushwick, here’s a list of events you could attend:
- CENYC just sent me an email about a Community Greening hands-on project “in Miracle Garden located on 194-196 East 3rd Street between Avenues A and B in Manhattan between the hours of 10 am – 2 pm. We can fill you in on volunteering with Greening that morning. Please wear gardening appropriate attire and expect some planting, mulching, weeding and maintenance of the rainwater harvesting system.”
- If you are looking for a more festive, less work-oriented stuff to do, you could always check out Eath Day New York at Grand Central.
- Looks like I missed the Earth Day Expo this weekend at Habana Outpost in Ft. Greene. Oh well…
- For a slightly “hipper” social gathering than the one at Grand Central, head to McCaren Park in W-burg for Go GREENpoint!
- To see where New York Mag says you should take your kids, click here. It is, after all, spring break for most schools in the city…
- If you find yourself uptown, check out Cooling El Barrio in East Harlem.
- A street tree event in Park Slope might also be a good stop on the Earth jour tour
I’m still wondering whether the Science Barge will be up and running. Either way, we all know Earth Day is every day, but tomorrow’s still special so I hope each and every one of us uses it as an opportunity to learn something new.
